We are seeking a Junior Building Services Technician to assist the building services manager in maintaining the effectiveness of equipment within the Department of Biochemistry. The Junior Building Services Technician will be part of the building services team who are responsible for front line maintenance of the plant and services.

The role holder is part of a team of 5 building services technicians over two buildings under the guidance of the Building Services Manager. The building services technician provides assistance to the team undertaking driving duties and various small tasks:

• maintenance (cleaning filters in air conditioning units, replacing fluorescent tubes, bulbs etc)

• safety (testing alarm systems and water temperatures etc)

• house-keeping (clearing debris in drain gullies, sweeping and re-painting of floors etc)

• delivery and collection lecture handouts, equipment to workshops and driving departmental vehicle etc. There will be some heavy lifting involved, but this will be using the appropriate lifting equipment.

This is a very busy department with varied research activities, using complex plant to maintain the correct environment for researchers and equipment. The Department occupies two main buildings, both being highly serviced with a large amount of plant equipment and a number of laboratories.

The successful candidate will be expected to familiarise themselves with the numerous plant rooms. The successful applicant will be able to work in a team.
